Safeguarding Children and Young People is taken seriously
in the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS). Volunteers who work
with children, young people and vulnerable adults need to be aware
of many different safeguarding issues. These include the
arrangements made to protect vulnerable people in Cornwall and how
volunteers should go about their work whilst keeping children
safe.
Often the trusted relationships built with a
local youth club leader or volunteer can create a safe space for
disclosures from children and young people and everyone needs to
know what they should then do.
We also need to bear in mind that this level of
trust needs to be carefully supported to ensure everyone in the
relationship is safe.
The NSPCC's Safe
Network set up to support the voluntary and community
sector to help them with useful resources and advice.
To facilitate the work of the VCS, with the
LSCB, there are VCS Representatives on the Board and Sub
groups. Steve Clarke is the VCS Representative on the LSCB
Board.
Steve Clarke can be contacted if you wish to
share safeguarding issues with the LSCB. If you would like to
see the reports from the meetings Steve and the other
Representatives attend on the VCS's behalf, please visit Cornwall
Voluntary Sector Forum's website or click here: http://cornwallvsf.org/representation/
