The Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) has continued its
commitment to providing child abuse inter-agency training in
Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
The safeguarding agenda is very large and it is important to
acknowledge that this programme focuses primarily on the child
protection element of safeguarding.
Chapter 4 of Working Together to Safeguard Children (revised
March 2010), clearly outlines the training and development
requirements for all those working with children, young people and
their families for them to effectively safeguard and
promote the welfare of children.
This training typically takes place in two ways:
- single-agency training*, which is training carried out by a
particular agency for its own staff; and
- inter- (or multi-) agency training, which is for employees of
different agencies who either work together formally or come
together for training or development.
In the future, there will be an expectation that all agencies
will take responsibility for delivering their own basic awareness
training to all of their staff. We have outlined within our
training programme the different levels of training and the
material available to support you in the delivery of this
training.
*With effect from 1st April, 2011, all applicants will have to
have completed single agency/inhouse training with their employer
prior to applying for the 1 day Inter-agency Child Protection
course. Please see guidance
letter from Helen Trelease.
